Stuffed Animal Storage

Stuffed Animal Storage

Stuffed animal storage is probably an issue for most parents, especially if they have more than one child!  I have been trying to corral stuffed animals for 17 years!! It is almost funny how the stuffed animals multiply….almost as if they are real animals that have been spaded or neutered!!

I try to be a hard-nose about stuffed animals….I RARELY ever buy one…unless it is a special trip to Build-a-Bear or something.  I am really not sure where they all come from…some are gifts and the others…who knows!  What I do know is that my kids never want to part with even one of their stuffed friends!

I would by lying if I said I haven't taken some animals to Goodwill when my kids weren't looking.  I don't mess with their favorites…I usually sneak out the ones they have won from the Claw Game and never think about again.

Right now my 9-year-old has two baskets of animals in her room plus a big tub of animals in the play room.  I felt like this was getting out of hand and decided it would make a great project for my first installment of Saturday Solutions!  I did a little research on good ways to solve the stuffed animal storage problem.

Here is the solution I decided to go with…..a stuffed animal beanbag solution!  This is so simple, easy and even usable!  It is a perfect solution for my problem!

We had an old beanbag in our playroom that has seen better days….the stuffing is so flat…it was like a pancake.  There was no cushion left and I actually was planning on throwing it away before I found out that it could solve my stuffed animal storage problem.

I emptied out the little white flat stuffing inside the beanbag and trashed them.  Then I decided to wash the cover because…it has never been washed before!  Yuck…I know!  Next up….I crammed 21 stuffed animals inside the bean bag cover!

Now the beanbag is full and comfortable again….and I have 3 free baskets/tubs that I can put other junk into!   🙂  How simple is that?  What a great solution!!

If you don't have a beanbag that you can repurposed at home….NO PROBLEM!  You don't have to buy a full beanbag…you can buy JUST THE COVER!  How great is that!  It is a ready to go stuffed animal storage item!  Beanbag Covers come in all shades and patterns…so pick one that you like and fill it up!  Here are some cute ones I found on Amazon.

I would love to hear what you do with all your children's stuff animals!  Is stuffed animal storage an issue for you too?  Thanks for sharing!

  1. That’s an awesome idea! I have…24802739 stuffed animals that I accumulated during my childhood and can’t bring myself to get rid of/give away (they all hold memories! :'( I’m a sentimental packrat), so this would be a great solution!

  2. They aren’t too much of an issue, mainly because the two older kids keep them on their beds and the little ones only have one each – after 7 kids, you learn a few things :p Less is more around here.

  3. My kids have tons of stuffed animals. My daughter still plays with hers but this is a clever idea for the ones she doesn’t.

  4. We used to hang them in nets in the top corner of their rooms. But now they don’t have many stuffed animals. What they do have go nicely in the toy box!

  5. I recently donated a lot of stuffed animals to the Goodwill since my daughter’s toy box was overflowing with them. However, I do love this idea!

  6. WOW I never thought to do this! What a great idea! I had SOOO MANY stuffed animals as a kid… and asthma, coincidence?… and now my daughter is a stuffed animal hoarder too… karma?? ; ) Great idea, I will definitely be trying to do this!

  7. I’m like you. I sneak them to the donation bin when they get shoved at the bottom of the basket and dont see the light of day for quite some time. This is a pretty cool idea. I am not sure how kiddo would feel sitting on a bag of stuffed animals though. lol

  8. This might be a good idea for those who like stuffed animals. My kids all have allergies and stuffed animals were never an option. They were allowed to have a couple and they were ok with that.

  9. This looks like such a wonderful idea! I cannot wait to pass this along to some of my family members who would benefit from it. Sadly, we are not able to have many stuffed animals due to asthma… Thanks for sharing!

  10. This is such a cost-saving solution. Now, we can only buy the cover and have a full redesigned or revamped bean bag at home. 🙂 I like the polka-dotted one!

  11. This is such a creative and awesome idea for those darn useless stuffed animals. Unfortunately my body can’t handle sitting in bean bags anymore so I’ll stick with donating the ones I have laying around.

  12. This is an awesome idea indeed. I will have to share this with my sister who has grown up girls now and a whole bunch of stuffed animals. It is what I call recycling indeed. Thanks for sharing.
